The “Why” is for me the most important question to understand people, companies and products. It enables the challenge of the status quo and often starts the endeavor to make things different and better. Hence I appreciate and embrace change despite the fact it is uncomfortable, exhausting and the rewards are sometimes hard to keep present.
With all we do in the professional world we should have one central focus: the customer. He is the one buying our products and ultimately paying our salaries. The clients issues we solve, the support we provide and the appreciation for his expectations drives the growth of our businesses whether in the enterprise or consumer markets. It is always an enjoyable journey to reach out to customers in order to understand their needs and bring this back into the organization and influence product decisions.
Coming a long way in sales roles put me in Business Development where change and the search for new things is a daily task. Working with people externally and internally, dealing with various cultures and mentalities as well the adoption to shifting circumstances keeps the job exciting. Being part of a team, actually several teams depending on projects, provides a corporate feeling which makes achievements even more valuable.
When the roads get bumpy and things go wrong looking for someone to blame is the least helpful measure in my belief. Let us learn the lesson and do it differently next time.
