This presentation covers the use of Track and Trace (T&T) technology as a building block for counterfeit protection in the legal supply chain driven by regulations. Although counterfeit incidents are limited, billing fraud remains a significant concern. The use of data could effectively prevent stockouts, but it is not allowed everywhere due to legal challenges. Russia has successfully implemented T&T technology for multiple uses. China has adopted scanning technology on WeChat and GS1 Digital Link for the data as a digital twin of the product. T&T technology can also aggregate data and label with SSCC up to the pallet, allowing for integration in logistics. The printing of primary packaging is also an open question for expansion with no clear answer yet.
I studied physics at the Technical University Darmstadt, degree in engineering. Since 1998 I have been working at Merck in automation. First laboratory and pilot plant units were my areas of responsibility. As continuing education I qualified as Master of Technical Management (CCI). Since 2005 I worked in pharma area (MES, production and packaging of solid dose). Since 2011 my main duty is serialization in packaging. Since August 2019 I am in a global role for Track & Trace in operations.
